Mountains, Hot Springs, Sea, Rivers and Places

We are in a wonderful location, surrounded by thick woods but easily reachable, 3 km from the village of Monticello Amiata and 7 km from Arcidosso.

We live in the “Middle Earth”, between Monte Amiata and Maremma, Val d’Orcia and Viterbo province; among medieval villages, cities of tuff and Etruscan scavations; between the mountains and the seaside: within a radius of 60 km there are numerous places of interest for every taste.

Hot Springs

Since Amiata is an ancient volcano, we are surrounded by natural spas. Lovers of thermal baths can choose from a wide selection of free and paid solutions in Saturnia, Bagno Vignoni, San Filippo, Petriolo, Radicofani e Chianciano.

History

Amiata history is tied to water, exploitation of natural earth heat and mercury mines. This is shown in the Water Museum in Vivo d’Orcia and the Mercury Mines Musuem in Santa Fiora, a mountain village mentioned in the Divine Comedy.

For archaeology enthusiasts there is the possibility of visiting some Etruscan sites of notable importance in Sovana, Roselle, Tarquinia and Vetulonia.

Among the places of historical and artistic interest of the middle age we count Arcidosso with its ancient tower, Castel del Piano with Palio, the castles in Porrona and Potentino Sant’Angelo in Colle with its view overlooking the Montecucco vignards, Abbadia San Salvatore with its medieval Abbey and the seventh century crypt, Santa Fiora with its fourteenth centoury famous “fishpond”, the roman village of Bagno Vignoni with the characteristic outdoor thermal bath and the Mills Park.

Mountain

Hikers and climbers will find plenty of possibilities to enjoy themselves along the trails of Mount Amiata, where chestnut trees alternate with beech trees, with majestic trees and enormous boulders that form caves and primordial landscapes. We remind the families also the Wildlife and the Adventure Parks.

A walk on Monte Labbro will allow you to visit the Giurisdavidica Tower and discover the story of David Lazzaretti and to experience a place with a powerful energy, surrounded 360° by the gentle Maremma hills that stretch to the sea, visible on the clearest days.

Food & Wine

Lovers of good food and wine will be able to delight themselves in numerous ways!

Let us give you some advice!

We are located a few steps from Montecucco, a land of fine wines. Another excellent food and wine destination in our surroundings is the beautiful Val d'Orcia, also rich from a historical and naturalistic point of view. In Montalcino, Pienza, San Quirico and Castiglione you can taste unforgettable wines and food, surrounded by a fairytale landscape.

Only a few km from us is Seggiano, the town of Oil, where you can visit the Olive Oil Museum, get lost in the streets of the stone village or take a walk among the sculptures of Daniel Spoerri Garden (danielspoerri.org).

Spirituality

Near us there are several places of spiritual interest, including the medieval Abbey of Sant'Antimo, built in local onyx and travertine by craftsmen from all over Europe, on the site of a Roman building. Three underground rivers cross under the altar of the church.

We are close to the Buddhist center Dzogchen Merigar West (merigar.it), pearl of our territory, where international retreats and courses take place all the year through.

In San Giovanni d'Asso there is the Bosco delle Ragnaie, a work of nature and art, a real place of the soul.

There are pools and waterfalls along the streams around us where the spirits of nature still chase each others and where you can meditate and bathe undisturbed, enjoying natural temples.

Seaside

We are about 60 km from the Tyrrhenian coast, along which you can find wonderful locations, from the most sophisticated as Castiglione della Pescaia to the wildest as the Parco dell'Uccellina (parco-maremma.it). Moreover, there is Punta Ala with its golf club and its crystal clear waters, Capalbio where you can visit the Tarot Garden (ilgiardinodeitarocchi.it), the magical Cala Violina, Monte Argentario with the famous Feniglia and Giannella beaches and many other seaside destinations that we will be happy to recommend you.
